about

'Fires' was created for a call out for two minute tracks by the Linear Obsessional label in December 2017 and I am honoured to have this track included on the compilation ‘ A View from a Hill’.
I have decided to include it here as the final release has 105 tracks on it. Here, it has a little space to breathe and also, it is a favourite of mine not only how it turned out but also the memories contained in it.

The concept of the original album is explained by compiler David Little (smallhaus) smallhaus.bandcamp.com

"The theme for this year’s compilation was really the first thing that occurred to me – maybe the time of year puts me in mind of MR James – the title comes from one of his ghost stories, or maybe because when I volunteered, I’d just spent a day in Hebden Bridge, nestling
amongst the Pennines. Anyway, the theme seemed to suggest two things close to my heart – landscape / countryside; and eeriness.
I’m very pleased with the results and I hope you are too. Some artists have concentrated on the Jamesian aspects of the title, recorded or interpreted landscapes of importance to them, or combined both. I’ve loved hearing results from artists living down the road to me (almost
literally in some cases) to ones from the other side of the world (Australia, Asia and the United States to name a few).
This album was sequenced in submission order – so listen to it in whatever order you see fit.
A huge thanks to all the artists who took part.
-David Little, 22 December 2017.
Dedicated to the memory of Emma Clayton-Wolfindale (1981-2017)."

About ‘Fires’ –
Two people have very different thoughts when they look down on the night-time view from Penshaw Monument.
One sees the past, the lights flickering like hundreds of campfires, stretching out below, as they did the night before the Battle of Boldon Hill in 1644.
The other sees the now, the electricity, the static, the car lights, the lamplights, the phosphorescent glow and hears it all.

I recommend 'A View from a Hill'.The album is a free download and comes with a pdf containing information and artwork . Here is the full release –
